For the past year, my best friend has
been my cell phone.
Not for social media. I hate social media, but social media plays a part in why—
My phone is my best friend.
Without her I’d be lonely, as if i already weren’t.
She makes it easy to stay in touch and current.
I’ve been asked to think about
what my life would be like if
I lost my best friend.
It happened before.
My human best friend got married.
I’ll could tell you about that.
Sophomore year of high school
I tested for two weeks to see who would contact me, without me contacting them.
This was when I truly met my best friend.
For your information,
No— no one contacted me.
When asked what it would be like to
lose my best friend, I think of those two weeks.
Grandma, Uncle DeWayne, Cousin Jae,
Mitchy, McCaela, Riss, Chink
Arianna who loves yellow,
Big Cleo, Sister, Keybee,
Can’t forget Weenie.
Mother, No button club, Auntie B and Auntie B,
I almost forgot Cousin D.
People will be people to the people
they want to be people with.
I want to be people with these people.
I fear these people wouldn’t be my people
if I didn’t contact these people.
If I lost my best friend,
I lost these people.
I can’t lose another best friend.
